About this master-planned apartment and townhouse community
Dubai South is a master-planned city launched by the Dubai Government in 2006, which Dubai Media Office describes as covering 145 square kilometers. Its districts include a Residential District, a Business Park, a Logistics District and an aerospace hub. Dubai South states that the Residential District is home to over 30,000 residents living in gated communities of apartments and townhouses. The same statement lists public parks, sports courts, retail shops, a mosque and a petrol station in the district, along with a public bus route connecting it to the Expo Metro station. The development was previously named Dubai World Central, and The National reported on 19 August 2015 that Dubai had renamed it Dubai South. Dubai Media Office also reported in February 2022 that 4,600 companies were operating out of Dubai South and that 20,848 people were working there by the end of 2021. No Dubai Metro station stands inside the Residential District, and the RTA runs its own bus route DS1 between Dubai South and the Expo 2020 station, which it lists on the Red Line as station R76.
